family movie reviews
Can someone answer a few questions about the Movie Inception?

I’m doing a review for this movie for school and I’m having a really hard time understanding this movie. I have few more things I need to find.

What do the characters clothes tell about them?

What’s the character’s professions?

Main characters hobbies, beliefs, values, opinions, likes and dislikes?

How does the main character relate to his family?

How do the other characters react to the main character?

What time period was chosen and what impact does it have on the character?

Thanks in advance. I will vote the best answer.

1 . I loved the cloths Inception Production Team used in the movie .
If you watch with concentration , you’ll see , there is a good use of red or close to red colors in the whole movie except for the part in which the Cobb team was in the snowy mountains . For an action movie , you need an intense color and not some color that gives you a tranquil feeling .
And to talk about their white cloths in the snowy mountains , it’s very clever as well . Wearing white in white makes you well camouflaged , so this was a good tactic for an action movie as well .
Robert Fischer never wore red , because he’s the target there .

2. Saito is a big figure in world business and someone very powerful .
All the members of the Cobb team are ” Dream thieves ” . Though if you study their backgrounds , you’ll see , Cobb and Arthur were ” Dream Extractors ” , that is thieves , right from the beginning , Ariadne was an architecture student , Eames is a forger and Yusuf is a chemist .
Robert Fischer is a son of the founder of some great business giant .

3. Main Characters : to me : Cobb , Mal , Ariadne .

Hobbies : I didn’t see anything that has been shown in the movie regrading their hobbies .
Beliefs and Values : Cobb was realistic . A good parent and a good husband too , I would say . Honest in business ( as he was with Saito ) . But what he did with Fischer simply made him guilty of being unethical . Emotional .

Mal: Her reality was harder than her dream world ( apparently Limbo ) . Everything else she did in the movie wasn’t herself , but a ” projection ” of Cobb’s subconscious .

Ariadne : Being a member of the Cobb team , she was unethical too . Curious . Fast learner . Sympathetic .

Opinions , Likes and Dislikes : I would love to have you more specific regarding this part . Whatever they did , they did because they like it or did’t dislike it . Whatever they refused to do , they did because they disliked it .

4 . It’s a very much family movie . Cobb did everything only to get back to his children . He tried to rescue his wife from Limbo , though which unfortunately produced an unexpected output , so it makes him a good husband as well .

5. Everybody including their target Robert was very cooperative to Cobb .

6. I think it’s at least a 50-year forward story . Because you have a machine there with which you can have your dreams shared with other . And that’s what the characters did there : sharing dreams , no ?

 Between Panic and Desire

Between Panic and Desire

$24.95

“Insouciant” and “irreverent” are the sort of words that come up in reviews of Dinty W. Moore’s books—and, invariably, “hilarious.” Between Panic and Desire, named after two towns in Pennsylvania, finds Moore at the top of his astutely funny form. A book that could be named after one of its chapters, “A Post-Nixon, Post-panic, Post-modern, Post-mortem,” this collection is an unconventional memoir of one man and his culture, which also happens to be our own. Blending narrative and quizzes, memory and numerology, and imagined interviews and conversations with dead presidents on TV, the book dizzily documents the disorienting experience of growing up in a postmodern world. Here we see how the major events in the author’s early life—the Kennedy assassination, Nixon’s resignation, watching Father Knows Best, and dropping acid atop the World Trade Center, to name a few—shaped the way he sees events both global and personal today. More to the point, we see how these events shaped, and possibly even distorted, today’s world for all of us who spent our formative years in the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. A curious meditation on family and bereavement, longing and fear, self-loathing and desire, Between Panic and Desire unfolds in kaleidoscopic forms—a coroner’s report, a TV movie script, a Zen koan—aptly reflecting the emergence of a fractured virtual America.

Just Joan: A Joan Crawford Appreciation

$34.95

Illustrated with over 300 photos, many of them rare and never before in print, JUST JOAN is a compilation of over four years of comprehensive research, culled from rare Lincoln Center archives, original magazines and those who knew her. Crawford is examined as a feminist forerunner, a gay icon, a dynamic artist, and as one of the world’s great movie stars. The many anecdotes and quotes within JUST JOAN reveal the sassy, indomitable spirit of this actress who grew up in abject poverty with an indifferent family and yet, against unseemly strife and setbacks, rose from the ashes like a phoenix. Her determination, talent and committed work ethic enabled her to find a career and home with what would be one of the most celebrated and powerful studios in film history, MGM. Hers is the moving, complex story of the pursuit and realization of the American Dream, part sublime, part nightmare, self-actuated. With rich detail and devotion, JUST JOAN bears testament to Crawford’s enduring enigma and powerful star. “If Joan Crawford was the ultimate star then Donna Nowak is the ultimate fan. She appreciates this complex subject for her skill as an actress, her importance as a pop culture icon, as well as displaying a fi ne sense of humor for Crawford’s more lurid notoriety. Nowak has a fervor, devotion, and attention to detail that even the fastidious Crawford would cheer.”- Charles Busch”Intelligent, insightful, witty – Donna Nowak’s essays and reviews on the style, work and life of Joan Crawford would have compelled the Ultimate Star to officially adopt her as the devoted creative daughter she always longed for.”- Shaun Considine

 Quackenstein Hatches a Family

Quackenstein Hatches a Family

$1.44

Crack open this tale of family and fright, as cute as it is creepy. All the animals in the zoo have friends and family to play with and love. All of them, that is, except Quackenstein. Lonely and bitter in his ramshackle corner, he decides to adopt an egg. He cares for it diligently, waiting until the moment when it will hatch a baby duck of his own. On a dark and stormy night, the egg hatches, Quackenstein cackles, and lightning strikes, but wait—what’s this? That baby’s not a duck! What will he do? Where can he hide? And will Quackenstein ever find someone (or something) to cuddle? Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen’s clever rhyming text is perfectly paired with cute and spooky art from Brian T. Jones.”Jones gleefully uses every cliché in the book, from lurid lettering and backgrounds to effective use of silhouettes and shadows. Bardhan-Quallen, too, takes advantage of horror-movie tropes, but she also mixes in some instruction in the form of cumulative nouns for animals. The surprise twist at the end happily resolves Quack’s fatherless state.” -Kirkus Reviews

 Traveling with Che Guevara

Traveling with Che Guevara

$3.65

In 1952 Alberto Granado, a young doctor, and his friend Ernesto Guevara, a 23-year-old medical student from a distinguished Buenos Aires family, decided to explore their continent. They set off from Cordoba in Argentina on a Norton 500cc motorbike and traveled though Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela. The duo’s adventures vary from the suspenseful (stowing away on a cargo ship, exploring Incan ruins) to the comedic (falling in love, drinking, fighting…) to the serious (volunteering as firemen and at a leper colony). They worked as day laborers along the way–as soccer coaches, medical assistants, and furniture movers. The poverty and exploitation of the native population started the process that was to turn Ernesto–the debonair, fun-loving student–into Che, the revolutionary who had a profound impact on the history of several nations. Originally published in Spanish in Cuba in 1978, the first English translation was published by Random House UK in 2003. The movie, based on Granado’s and Che’s diaries, directed by Walter Salles (Central Station, Behind the Sun), was produced by Robert Redford and others. Shown at the Sundance Film Festival, it generated great reviews and a frenzied auction for distribution rights, which was won by Focus Features. Granado, now 82, was a consultant to Salles during the production.

 United 93: The Shooting Script

United 93: The Shooting Script

$19.95

At what point does it become acceptable to portray such a painful time on the screen? According to writer/director Paul Greengrass—informed with interviews from more than 100 family members and friends of the fallen passengers and crew—the right time is when the families say yes, which they all did. “Forty ordinary people had thirty minutes to confront the reality of the way that we’re living now, decide on the best course of action and act . . . they were the first people to inhabit the post-9/11 world,” writes Greengrass in his treatment explaining why and how he wanted to make this movie. The treatment appears in this scriptbook, along with an astonishing article by Michael Bronner about the U.S. Air Force response to the hijacking, film reviews by Martin Amis, Peter Bradshaw, David Denby, and Stephen King, a Q&A with Paul Greengrass, production notes, and more.

 Wolves at the Door

Wolves at the Door

$34.95

ABOUT THE NOVEL: Wolves at the Door, a saga of homesteading across Kansas and Colorado in the 1800s,is the first installment of the Devon family trilogy. The author’s own family history springs to life in this generational tale, taking the reader from the Battle of Westport, across Kansas from Ft. Scott to Kiowa, and ultimately to La Junta, Colorado at the turn of the century. The second volume, Full Circle, continues the journey into the 20th century with completely different locales and challenges. It is scheduled for release in 2008. REVIEWS OF WOLVES AT THE DOOR: “In his solid inaugural novel, Wolves at the Door, Tom Chown evinces an historian’s eye and a storyteller’s soul. His saga of Henry and Tamsen Devon’s journey from the American frontier to the founding of the modern Midwest is one part history lesson, one part sociology primer, and one part action movie script. It’s also a well-crafted study of the frontier family, something rarely attempted since Willa Cather’s masterworks. The early descriptions of Henry’s experience as a Jayhawker in 1860′s “Bloody Kansas” are harrowing, and Chown describes the beauty, hardships, and spirituality of frontier Kansas in dead-on fashion. He constructs the novel in subtitled snippets, stories of everyday frontier lives. Henry Devon is an epic western character, forged by a savage world yet understanding how quickly it is all slipping away. His spiritual awakening while watching an Osage band hunt and kill a bull Buffalo is profound, providing a fine literary explanation of the historical respect and regret with which many settlers viewed the conquered and dispirited Indians. Inspired by his forebears, Chown’s novel is a rich tapestry of accurate history, humor, folklore, and legend, expertly defining those who, in the last half of the 19th century, may well have been America’s true ‘greatest generation.’” – Jon Chandler: Author, singer/songwriter, and 1999 Western Writers of America Spur Award Winner
